Paris Wanderlust

I am prone to wanderlust, especially when it comes to Paris. I adore this city.

The architecture evokes French character and monuments portray elegance. The art and culture never cease to amaze me.

I think it’s easy for everyone to unanimously agree that Paris is one of the most romantic cities in the world.

It is a city that inspires me and makes me feel connected to another era, a more simple and romantic time.

Eiffel Tower

Nothing symbolizes Paris more than the Eiffel Tower and she is a beauty.

It was amazing to stand with my family and while looking at the Eiffel Tower, we all collectively gasped.

Even my 8yr old daughter was in awe. The only thing I especially wanted to do was to watch the sunrise over the Eiffel Tower and it was a golden spectacular.

A trip up the iron lady was well worth it. The view overlooking the City of love is a sight to behold.

After sunset, the Tower will start to sparkle on the hour.

Viewing the tower at a distance is best, as you’ll be able to take in all of her beauty and thoroughly enjoy the light show and really see her shine!

Arc Du Triomph

Iconic monument, the Arc du Triomph is one of the most popular tourist spots in Paris and seeing the traffic make a roundabout it is quite an impressive sight. I stood on an island right in the middle of the worlds most famous street, the Champs-Élysées to get this shot with 12 lanes running through.

My first day in Paris started with delectable French pastry, complete with the most delicious hot chocolate you could imagine.

I was eating macarons by morning tea.

The Louvré

Paris arguably has the best art museum in the world and perhaps the most beautiful. A central landmark in Paris.

The fusion of classic architecture of the main museum building, along with the modern glass pyramid is the most popular when photographing the Louvré, but the inside halls are absolutely ornate and gorgeous.

In the Louvré, you can find famous works of art such as the Winged Victory of Samothrace (or better known as The Winged Nike),

The Judgement of Paris and most famously, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Cathédral Notre Dame

The famous Notre Dame Cathédral is one of the prime examples of Gothic architecture and the architectural details on the main façade and the rear of the building are all absolutely spectacular. One of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture since Notre Dame was completed in 1345, it has been the religious heart of the city. It’s hard not to be awed by the famous rose stained glass and the gargoyle-framed panoramas of the city.

Sadly, Notre dame was tragically damaged in a fire in April 2019, destroying the wood lattice roof and iconic cathedral spire.

I managed to capture these photos before the fire and treasure them.

Champs Elysees

Avenue des Champs Elysees, perhaps the most famous street in the world. Stunning Arc du Triumph sits proudly at the top of the street.

A journey down the street takes you into the most luxury stores of the world from Louis Viton and Mont blanc to Yves St Lauren.

Luxembourg Gardens

Our visit to the Luxembourg Gardens was definitely a highlight and satisfied my Paris wanderlust.

Between the Jardin du Palace, the royal gardens and pools, it is easy to lose track of time.

Pull up a chair or lay out a blanket, either way, sit back and relax as the Parisians do!

It is easily one of the most beautiful parks in the world. Due to its atmosphere of regality.

These French-style gardens are dotted with over 100 ornate statutes.

Highlights of this park include tree-lined promenades and chestnut groves including grotto style fountains.

I stood for ages just enjoying the mesmerising water of the Médicis fountain. The soft smell of roasted chestnuts infused the air.

Paris Merry Go Round

Also is known as the Vintage Carrousel found on the grounds of the Hôtel de Ville is one of Paris’ most whimsical and enchanting carousels.

It was the most delightful surprise sights. Visit at night to ride the Art Nouveau carousel, lit up in all her glory.

This vintage double-decked amusement park ride is handmade, covered with mirrors, wooden animals and ornate flowers.

Another lovely surprise was one of our chosen rest stops, at the Love Locks bridge (Pont des Arts),

where Gabby and Ted put a lock on it, kissed and threw the key in the River Seine.

Palais Garnier

If you’re a lover of the arts, you can’t miss out on exploring the Palais Garnier.

It’s the location of the Phantom of the Opera book and musical and the building is nothing short of beautiful.

Roue De Paris

We started our day at the top end of the famous Champs Elysees street and walked for hours till we ended up at the breathtaking

Roué de Paris Ferris wheel.

Another incredible way to see the city views and a perfect vantage point for Paris wanderlust icons, the Eiffel Tower and Seine River.

Beautiful red and blue lights flash up and down the metal arms of the wheel.

Paris Metro

A journey on the Paris Metro is certainly one that makes you feel like you stepped back in time. Some of the trains running are old.

Creakingly old and outdated, especial if your only benchmark of comparison is the London underground.

The train doors have handles. Literal handles, that you have to use in order for the doors to open, lifting the small piece of metal up slowly as you’re unsure if you’re going to break the door only for the doors to snap open rapidly and viciously.

You’re left standing confused and bemused, buffeted by the heavy station air – all while being watched by onlooking Parisians.

Station names, however, are amazing. You’ve got legendary authors, like Victor Hugo (Les Misérables) and Alexandre Dumas (The Three Musketeers).

There is a station named after Pablo Picasso. Combined with the handles and some suspiciously flickering lights,

you’re one steam engine away from a strangely antiquated experience. It’s cute even if a little inefficient.

Paris Street Art

Not all of Paris’ art scene is kept away in crowded museums. A simple stroll of the streets and pavements take you on a journey

as you explore the city’s vibrant street art scene.

One last place I wanted to see was the “Flame” that was erected in memory of the tragedic death of Princess Diana in the Paris tunnel.

Paris Wanderlust

After having experienced an awesome amount of Paris wanderlust, our busy days ended perfectly as we made our way back to our

Mercure Paris central hotel and watched the Eiffel tower sparkle at night as we drifted off to sleep.
