Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island is one of my favourite Great Barrier Reef destinations in Queensland.

As I sit to write this, it’s chilly outside. Even as the sun tries to warm our days, the weather is cooler and winter beckons.

It’s makes me dream of warm, balmy sunny days in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

I’m not a winter person at all and as I get older I appreciate Queensland and it’s gorgeous hot summers more and more.

Let’s escape the cold weather together to the pristine waters of Hamilton Island and stretches of white beaches across the Whitsundays.

Immerse yourself in a kaleidoscope of coral and marine life.

Take in the most brilliant aqua seas and sparkling sunshine. Come and venture with me.

Every time I visit Hamilton Island I love it more and more. Especially during our state lockdowns Iv been so thankful I live in Queensland.

It’s the best state in Australia for sure ( shh don’t tell the others! )

1. Favourite Accomodation

HIDDEN COVE

This is a new development with 17 resort style apartments.

Imagine magnificent sunsets and breathtaking views of the surrounding islands from the gorgeous deck.

Guests have the unique advantage of enjoying a private beach.

The pool area complete with infinity pool is nothing short of exquisite.

REEF VIEW HOTEL
This is the place if you are looking for family friendly accomodation that includes a great buffet brekky.

Also included are most of the islands facilities and activities.

I would highly recommend looking for accommodation that includes buggy hire as this will be the only mode of transport for the duration of your stay.

They are heaps of fun!

It’s the ultimate stay to celebrate a honeymoon or anniversary.

Whitsunday

2. Whitehaven Beach is a must.

A trip to the Great Barrier Reef is not complete without a visit to Whitehaven Beach.

This famous stretch of beach is unspoilt and stunningly breathtaking.

Nothing more beautiful than the swirls of aqua, blue and green water.

A day spent on this isolated paradise while swimming in the turquoise waters will never be forgotten!

You can get to Whitehaven Beach via high-speed catamaran or my personal favourite a helicopter or seaplane from Hamilton Island,

which I would strongly recommend if you can.

Seeing this part of the Great Barrier Reef by air is truly an incredible experience.

3. Favourite places to eat

There are many great places to eat on the Island. First would be Bobs Bobs Bakery in the mornings, get there early as the line can trail right out the door!

Delicious fresh fish and chips for lunch at Popeyes Takeaways.

Dinner favourites are Marina Tavern and Sails, both with spectacular views. I would recommend making a booking for both.

4. End your day with the perfect sunset

My favourite places to be at sunset would be Bommie Deck.

Watch the sun slowly slip behind Dent Island or pack a picnic dinner and sit on the grass watching the last rays of sun for the day at One Tree Hill.

If you choose to stay at Hidden Cove, you can miss the crowds, slip into the infinity pool with your favourite beverage

and watch a perfect sunset across Dent passage to Dent Island.
